How To Create Patterns In Photoshop

Patterns are used in Photoshop to apply a particular image across a broad area very quickly. They are extremely easy to create.

Simply find an image for use and then select and define the image as a pattern. We'll also briefly look at how to apply the pattern.

Create the pattern

1)
Open the image to be used and select the Rectangular Marquee Tool
2)
Select the portion of the image to be used as a pattern

3)
Navigate to Edit > Define Pattern...

4)
Name the pattern

Apply the pattern

1)
Right-click the layer that's requiring the pattern and choose Blending Options...

2)
Choose Pattern Overlay and select the pattern you've created

Choose OK to apply.
